Colophon
What is a colophon?
Traditionally found in books, the colophon is where printers convey information about both themselves and the process that went into publication. It's where you find the nerdy details.
Accessibility
→ WCAG 2.0 level AA
Accessibility is of the utmost importance so everyone can use my site including my Mum. I just launched this new version of the site, and while its on its way to meeting WCAG 2.0 level AA standards, I still have work to do on tagging, page regions, keyboard navigation, and some colour combos.
Typography
Avenir Next
Most of the text is set in Avenir Next, Akira Kobayashi's reworked 2007 version of Adrian Frutiger's original Avenir family from 1988. Apple graciously bundles it with both MacOS and iOS, so if you're on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad it should load automagically.
Futura
The all caps titles are set in Futura, a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner and released in 1927. I’m no Wes Anderson but I think it still holds up.
Tech
Notion
This entire site is now run from Notion (that’s a referral link). Notion is the app that has become so much more than a note-taking tool. Being able to update a page or quickly fix spelling mistakes from my phone is **chef’s kiss**
Super
However, the secret sauce that makes this site not look like an off-the-shelf Notion page is super.so. Basically you feed your notes into Super and it transforms them into magic pages with customizable CSS, SEO optimization, and many other nifty details.
Font Awesome
I like drawing my own icons but you can't beat the suite of branded social icons that the folks at Font Awesome pump out.
A.I.
Besides the occasional use of ChatGPT as a glorified thesaurus or a quick fix with Photoshop generative fill, this site doesn’t make use of artificial intelligence.
Analytics
I don’t collect any data or analytics.
Land Recognition
The land on which I live, work, and play is the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people.
