2011 – 2012
Back in the heyday of hyperlocal lifestyle blogs, my good friend Graham and I started one for our hometown, Steveston.
As the “independent source for all things Steveston”, we wanted to bring together both the people and businesses of Steveston Village, a historic fishing town in Richmond, BC, Canada. Through investigating, documenting, and celebrating everything that makes it unique, we aimed to show off the best that our little town has to offer.
The result was inSteveston.com, a collection of our own articles combined with a super searchable business directory. We also expanded into the twenty-teens social media landscape with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, and even Foursquare.
We didn’t just cover events, but created our own too, the biggest being a fundraising initiative for cancer research as part of Movember. While every home in town received our custom mailers, we sourced sponsorship for the Steveston ‘Staches “Whisker Weekend”, a chance for the community to come out and support the cause by shopping for limited deals and specials at the shops.
While it was rewarding work, we were both balancing raising young families and full time jobs with all the interviews, research, designing, photography, and daily updates. It came to a natural conclusion and we were happy to recently sell the whole kit and caboodle to its current curators, where both our brand assets and the spirit of Steveston get to live on.

My name is Nick and I'm a product designer by day and a sticker designer by night. Over the course of my career I've cofounded three hilarious children and cried at every Pixar movie.
