Kigoos Shirts

If you haven’t had kids in sports lately, there are “mandatory” volunteer hours now. But because I’m a designer, I get to use my powers for good (and avoid selling hot dogs).
My youngest son is in the local swim club called Kigoos and won their shirt design competition. I cleaned up his hand-drawn submission for printing and that’s when the organization realized I had that particular set of skills.
The first assignment I got was a perfectly timed Ted Lasso tribute, and even more appropriate because our city is named Richmond.

The next season took place just as Taylor Swift mania was sweeping Vancouver for the final show in her Eras tour. Kigoos is an Indigenous word that means “fish” so my big idea was…fish.

But the board didn’t love it (I guess we’ll consider that one “Nick’s version). I instead started riffing on song and album titles with some TAYLORABLE puns, and to my surprise they totally went for it!

And for the most recent season the club was celebrating their 66th year, so I got to pull from a wealth of Route 66 inspiration. I designed it out digitally but drew over to give it a weathered road sign feel.

And yes, 2026 designs are just around the corner…
